She’s Focused – Angela at The Personal Property Shop
Fourth in my blog series, “She’s Focused” is Angela Westgarth who runs The Personal Property Shop in Bishop’s Stortford
Tell me a little about yourself in a few brief sentences.
I am 28, live in Bishop’s Stortford and started my business around 2 and a half years ago. I have lived in the area for 16 years and was originally from the Epping area. My business is definitely my passion, it takes up much of my time, thoughts and energy – but outside that the other big love in my life is horses. I do dressage and between my mum and I we have 7 horses (two of which are retired now) and we are regularly out competing which also takes up much of my time!
When did you start your business and what was your inspiration for doing so?
We started in the summer 2014 and my inspiration came from my own personal experience of dealing with estate agents. I had moved 11 times by the time I was 16 as my mum renovates properties, so I was probably destined for a career in property! When I bought my first property a few years ago I saw a niche in the market for a friendlier, more personal service – as unfortunately the industry hasn’t got the best reputation! My experience in the past had been mixed, with some fairly good experiences dealing with agents and some extremely poor. I took all the good points and all the bad points, to make the ‘perfect estate agency’ and certainly by the feedback we get from our clients we’re offering a great service.
What is your happy song – you know the one you can’t help but smile to when you hear it?
At the moment it’s Sia – Unstoppable
Share something that not many people know about you…
I’m actually half Cypriot, my Dad’s side of the family are from Cyprus – originally from the north but that all changed with the troubles back in the 1950’s, so many of my family now live over here, mainly in London. You wouldn’t tell from my surname as my name was changed when I was about 4 years old – the name on my birth certificate is Angela Agathangelou – Westgarth is definitely much easier to spell!
Best advice you’ve have been given?
‘Attitude is everything’
What is your favourite local business / shop / restaurant and why?
At the moment it has to be Hills Housekeeping. The lovely Zoe and Maria are based in Dunmow and they offer a ‘housekeeping service’ so not just your average cleaners! They say it’s “like your mum’s been round” once their ladies have been and I can totally agree!
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
Winning the national dressage championships in 2012.
If you could have one superpower what would it be?
To be able to read minds – it would definitely help on a valuation!
Tell us a little about your business and why people should use it?
The Personal Property Shop is an estate agency and letting agency based in Bishop’s Stortford. We work differently to most estate agents, offering a highly personal service and truly working hard to get the best price possible, in the shortest time frame. We do this in 3 main ways 1. The first step is to help you present the property in the best possible way. Whether you’re selling or letting, the better presented your property, the more buyers or tenants you will attract, meaning you can achieve the best price, in a quicker time frame. 2. Next, we capture the property on camera in its best light. Again – whether you’re selling or letting, better photos get people through the door. As everyone now uses Rightmove or Zoopla to search for a new property, they generally look straight for the photos, and the better they are, the more viewings you will have – again, resulting in a quicker sale/let and for a higher price. 3. The third step is about tailoring the strategy for the property and using modern day strategies. As an example, for many properties, open days are a great option. Not only do they take the hassle out of the process of selling or letting but it once again means you can typically sell for a higher price and quicker too. Being an all lady team (not that we have anything against men!) we pride ourselves on being friendly and approachable – something we’re complimented on time and time again.
